Unlikely Pilgrims

Do you See What I See

Ever gone on a really long trip to celebrate Christmas? Many times the extra effort, time, and expense required to be with family can make the time together even more rewarding and satisfying – some of us can relate. But have any of us taken a long trip without really knowing where our final destination was? The wise men are traveling a long distance, guided by a star, and resort to asking for directions in Jerusalem. From our place and perspective, Magi arriving with gifts for Jesus is another chapter in the heart-warming Christmas story. Let’s open our hearts and ask the Lord to give us eyes to see this pilgrimage the way the wise men experienced it.

Our God doesn’t think the way we think and He doesn’t work in the ways we would – in fact, His thoughts and His ways are WAY beyond and WAY above ours – HE surpasses us in every WAY (Isa. 55:8-9). When we read the familiar story of Jesus’ birth, don’t you wonder why God did things that way? A teenager, pregnant, before she is married – how scandalous, right? Many of us are blessed to have warm memories about the ways that our families have celebrated Christmas. How do you think this story that we celebrate with such joy and hope was experienced by young Mary and Joseph?
