21 Days

GCC Mission 2020 East

Our Grace Covenant Church family is about to enter into 21 Days of corporate prayer & fasting (January 10-31). Before we begin, let's take some time to see what the scriptures say about fasting: What does a Biblical fast look like? What is the purpose of fasting? Is food the only thing you can fast from? Since fasting was a part of Jesus' life (Matthew 4:1-11), then we want it to be a part of our lives as well so that we can continue to grow more & more into His image!

From Series: "GCC Mission 2020 East"

In a culture where we can (more than) easily buy in bulk, super-size our food orders, get a cup of caffeine every few blocks at a coffee shop, upgrade our technological devices to the "bigger & better" versions, add 50 more channels to the 180 that we already get with cable TV or binge watch 45 episodes of a series on Netflix, we are full. We like having enough; we like having plenty. We like being full. Fasting - "giving up food (or something else) for a period of time in order to focus your thoughts on God". Reading that can cause a variety of thoughts: 1) "Huh? Why would I do that?"; 2) "Will God love me more if I fast?"; 3) "Is that what I need to do in order to get my prayers answered?"; 4) "Ugh - that means going hungry and being miserable. No. Thank. You." Being full vs. being hungry? Pretty sure we'd all chose the former. Being full of God and more hungry for Him? Is there even a better option?
