A Greater Reward

Higher

The hunger for accolades, awards, position and titles is an insatiable quest for affirmation. We all want to be thought highly of and be seen. Perseverance, hard work and good deeds should characterize every Christian; however, a series of warnings are issued in Matthew 6:1-18 that urge us to check the motives behind our actions. Are we seeking to impress man or honor God? Specifically, these verses call us to give without fanfare, pray in secret and fast without notice. Three times in Matthew 6, we are reminded that "the Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you." Can we forfeit the temporary praises of man for the greater reward He promises?

From Series: "Higher"

We'll be looking at one of Jesus' longest sermons on record -- the Sermon on the Mount. So, yes, we'll be doing sermons on a sermon...not 5 but not 30 either! Just 10. Ten weeks of covering the multitude of topics that Jesus talks about in Matthew 5-7. If you're fine with "just getting by" in your walk with the Lord, these words of Jesus' might make you squirm a bit. He raises the bar high; higher than what the world thinks is sensible. Maybe higher than what we think is sensible. But there's life within life within life when we follow His ways! It's going to be a great series!
