Message: “Get a Grip” from Sue Shank

A no-brainer. Stating the obvious. If A, then B. Clear as a bell. Up to this point, the apostle Paul has been presenting a very clear & factual case to the Galatians in order to keep them on the road of salvation by grace through faith...not law; not works. But in the passage we'll be looking at this week, we'll see a definite shift of Paul's tone. He becomes more personal, more subjective...maybe even a bit more irritated (?) that the Galatians would even consider going back to a works-based salvation. If Paul were writing this letter today, I can almost hear him saying, "What in the world are you thinking?? Get a grip!"

You've probably all heard it said, "If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is." A deal or an offer pops up and we feel like we've just been given an incredible offer of a lifetime...for about 15 seconds. Then something in our gut says, "Wait a second, that seems too good to be true...". And more times than not, we're exactly right. We begin our new summer sermon series: "By Grace Alone", a study of the book of Galatians. From the very beginning of the book, Paul calls out the people for "following a different way that pretends to be the Good News but is not the Good News." (1:7). Because being saved by grace (alone) through faith seemed too good to be true, the people couldn't believe it. How about you?
