God is love (1 John 4:8). Love is not merely a facet of His character but the sum of all His attributes and the aim of all His actions. His love is both tangible and mystical. We can feel it and yet it is also far beyond our comprehension. In Luke 15, we find a group of Pharisees scoffing at Jesus' propensity to hang out with sinners and tax collectors. Jesus responds with a trifecta of parables that paints a picture of love that is altogether unrelenting, scandalous and extravagant –not to mention unsettling and offensive for the Pharisees.
