This verse reminds me of getting yelled at in 2ndgrade Sunday School: “Oh, you want to be first? Get to the back of the line!” I wonder if there might have been a better way to deal with that? All the good cookies were gone. I learned my lesson alright --I should somehow get to the front of the line earlier! Amazing how we live out these memories’ years and decades later. We can still wonder, "If we don’t push for ourselves, who will?" Classic thinking, but sad and lonely in the long run. Jesus came to earth with bigger and better ideas for a more-than-enough, never-ending life. He came to guide us and correct us into radically different thinking.
