Unreasonable Hope

Brighter Still

“Behold I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” Luke 1:38 I like to have things figured out. I’d prefer my ducks to be in neat rows and all matters to be held in reasonable order. Logic and common sense, however, fall miserably short when we consider the Christmas story. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was given an unreasonable call: by immaculate conception, she would carry and birth the son of God & Savior of the world. Her response to this call was also completely unreasonable: “Behold I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." (Luke 1:38) As a result of her unreasonable response, unreasonable hope was birthed into the world. Scriptures to Study: Luke 1:26-56 Luke 2:1-21 Questions to Consider: Consider the Christmas story from Mary’s perspective. What is admirable about her response? Why? What does it look like to have unreasonable hope? Do you have unreasonable hope for any areas or people in your life right now? Who? What? Key words: Hope, Mary, Jesus, response, birth
