Catch 22

Marvelous Fatih

Have you ever faced a situation where you felt like you were just boxed in and there was no way out? It is amazing all the ways we use to describe these situations: ''up a creek without a paddle'', ''in a jam,'' or you may have even heard someone say that you are ''between a rock and a hard place.'' You are in the proverbial Catch-22. It appears as if no matter what you do, which path you take, which decision you make, you are doomed. Whether it's related to your job, your marriage, your kids, or something you are dealing with personally, you are in a tight place and you see no way out. You are in a real predicament. The miracle of the parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 14) is the greatest Catch-22 perhaps anyone has ever faced in history. It was one of the more complicated predicaments the nation of Israel would ever find themselves in and yet they lived to tell about it! And we still hear about it today! Movies have even been made concerning this event. (Think "The Exodus"). Moses lead a very large group out of oppression and into God’s delight. That took some faith; some marvelous faith!

From Series: "Marvelous Fatih"

Take the story of Adam & Eve found in the book of Genesis. In the garden of Eden (aka the good 'ol days of perfection), God told this first couple that the growling of their stomachs could be silenced by the fruit from any tree in the entire garden except the tree of the knowledge of good & evil (Genesis 2). Along comes the enemy (snake that he is) and causes them to doubt what God really told them. Off to the tree of the knowledge of good & evil they go, pluck off an apple and..."Crunch!". A very, very familiar story to many of us because we've heard it and read it so many times. For years. But wait. Was it an apple that they ate on that fateful day? Take a look at Genesis 3 and give it another read. Sometimes it's good to hear stories again. Even those we've heard thousands of times before. We might just see or hear something we have never noticed before. We might just have our faith stirred up in a new way by an old story. Welcome to our new sermon series, Marvelous Faith.
